ASDA (American Student Dental Association) Georgia Chapter
The local ASDA chapter at the GRU College of Dental Medicine was organized in 1970. ASDA is the recognized student affiliate of the American Dental Association. The ASDA councils form the student government in the dental school and organize student events such as Clinic Day, Sports Day, Annual Holiday Charity Ball to benefit “Give Kids a Smile”, Welcome Back Dinner, various fundraisers and receptions. ASDA also informs students of events, benefits and responsibilities in organized dentistry on the local, state, and national level. Membership is open to all dental students and recent dental school graduates involved in dental specialty programs at GRU. ASDA membership allows students concurrent acceptance into the Georgia Dental Association on a non-dues-paying basis.

Emile T. Fisher Foundation for Dental Education in Georgia

The Emile T. Fisher Foundation for Dental Education in Georgia seeks to have a positive impact on the quality of dental services in the state of Georgia by awarding financial scholarships to deserving dental and dental hygiene students. Scholarships are presented annually to students at the Georgia Regents University College of Dental Medicine, and to dental hygiene students at each of Georgia’s accredited dental hygiene educational programs.

In 1984, the GDA, at the behest of President Dr. Jay McCaslin V, appointed an ad hoc committee to study the possibility of creating a dental foundation for Georgia. The House of Delegates voted in 1985 to form the Georgia Dental Education Foundation, and provided initial funding of $50,000 to establish Foundation activities. The Secretary of State and IRS awarded the Foundation 501(c)(3) charitable status on August 20, 1985. The initial slate of officers was President Dr. Russ Ragsdale (Northwestern), and GDA district representatives Dr. D.T. Walton Jr. (Central), Dr. Bill Wege (Eastern), Dr. Bill Callahan (Northern), Dr. Leon Aronson (Southeastern), Dr, Ed Gandy (Southwestern), Dr. Leo Berard (Western), and Dr. Emile Fisher (At Large). Dr. Wege was the second president, and Dr. Fisher the third.

In 2005, the GDEF was renamed as the Emile T. Fisher Foundation for Dental Education in Georgia. Dr. Fisher chaired the GDA Ad Hoc Committee that studied the Foundation's creation in the 1980s, and has played an active role in the operations of the Foundation since that time.

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Donations made to the Foundation are tax deductible. Dentists may donate to the Foundation via their annual GDA dues statement or donate directly to the Foundation. Obtain details at

GDA Foundation for Oral Health

The Foundation was established in 2011 as a nonprofit entity whose goals include, but are not limited to, the provision of dental care, goods and outreach services to those who cannot afford or do not have access to such goods and services. The Foundation currently supports the Georgia Mission of Mercy. First offered in 2011, this multi-day free dental clinic provides free access to dental care for low- and no-income adults while placing a high priority on patients suffering from dental infections or pain. The Foundation seeks to educate consumers about the importance of obtaining and maintaining optimal oral health; raise awareness of the difficulty low-income Georgia adults face in accessing critical dental care; and challenge patients, policymakers, and dental professionals to work together to improve the oral health of vulnerable populations.
