The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency will begin re-classifying hydrocodone combination products such as Vicodin as Schedule II drugs instead of Schedule III effective Oct 6, 2014. Dentists with a Schedule III DEA registration who wish to keep prescribing these products must amend their registration to include Schedule II prescriptive authority. Visit www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov and click the registration changes link. The DEA will permit hydrocodone combination products prescriptions issued before Oct 6 to be refilled until April 8, 2015, if the prescription authorizes refills.

The Georgia Oral Health Workforce Advancement Loan Repayment Program is open to licensed dentists who are employed or seeking employment at approved sites. The program pays up to $25,000, for one year, towards pre-dental and dental education loan debt for new graduates or young practitioners. In return, applicants agree to practice full-time dentistry for a minimum of 12 months, in a Georgia DHPSAs or Georgia Division of Public Health dental program. Get all the details! Dr. Doug Torbush walks the walk. His thriving practice in the Northern District is 25 years old. His marriage to Debbie, a leader in the dental Alliance spouses’ organization, is 37 years old. At Emory dental school, Dr. Torbush was the class president for four years. He has played competitive tennis for 30 years, serving as team captain nearly every year. He and Debbie are both committed volunteers at GDA and Alliance events ranging from the Georgia Mission of Mercy to TeamSmile to oral cancer screenings at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
