Several dentist offices across Georgia are sponsoring Halloween candy buy-back drives in November to collect unopened candy to send to U.S. troops overseas. Participants will receive cash or prizes for every pound of candy they donate. The candy will then be donated to troops serving overseas through Operation Gratitude. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency will begin re-classifying hydrocodone combination products such as Vicodin as Schedule II drugs instead of Schedule III effective Oct 6, 2014. Dentists with a Schedule III DEA registration who wish to keep prescribing these products must amend their registration to include Schedule II prescriptive authority. Visit www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov and click the registration changes link. The DEA will permit hydrocodone combination products prescriptions issued before Oct 6 to be refilled until April 8, 2015, if the prescription authorizes refills.

The Georgia Oral Health Workforce Advancement Loan Repayment Program is open to licensed dentists who are employed or seeking employment at approved sites. The program pays up to $25,000, for one year, towards pre-dental and dental education loan debt for new graduates or young practitioners. In return, applicants agree to practice full-time dentistry for a minimum of 12 months, in a Georgia DHPSAs or Georgia Division of Public Health dental program. Get all the details!
