Alliance of the GDA
The Alliance is an organization of more than 700 dental spouses, male and female, that serves as a valuable GDA partner in the arenas of legislative advocacy, dental health education, and well-being of the dental family. Alliance members coordinate the GDA legislative dental kit program, attend GDA LAW Day, take part in Give Kids a Smile Day and Children’s Dental Health Month activities, and conduct numerous other initiatives. Thanks to 2014-15 officers President Cindy Jernigan, President Elect Julie Vaughn, Vice President Julia Davis, Secretary Erin Park, Treasurer Fran Brown, Editor Janet Bradberry, and Parliamentarian Janelle Kauffman for their efforts in leading the Alliance team.

Upcoming Alliance Events

Alliance of the GDA Family Picnic
Saturday, May 10, 2014
11AM – 5PM @ Brittany Club (Dunwoody)

Please join us for an afternoon of
FUN, FOOD, and FELLOWSHIP

Please bring a dish to share—snacks, salads, desserts—and your own main dish and favorite beverages. We will have a grill available if you want to cook hot dogs or hamburgers. Paper products, plastic ware, and ice will be provided. We plan to eat around 1 PM. There is also a refrigerator / freezer and warming drawer in the kitchen if you need to store and heat items. There is also an ice maker on-site.

We will have Bocce Ball and Croquet set up, but feel free to bring any other games such as Badminton or Volleyball. If there is enough interest, we will organize a Tennis Round Robin. Fishing is also available, so bring your fishing poles and bait! There are walking trails around the lake, and you can also bring your own Kayak, Canoe, or Jon Boat (only trolling motors allowed). Make sure you bring life preservers for little ones or non-swimmers if around the lake. If you like, bring a blanket, folding chairs, and guitar. In case of inclement weather or you need shade there is a covered balcony and club house.

Please let me know if you plan to attend and if you are interested in the Tennis Round Robin and have any other games you are willing to share! Can’t wait for a wonderful afternoon!

Alliance Brings Meth Mouth Mary Education Module to Georgia
The Alliance owns a Meth Mouth Mary education module available for use by Alliance spouses in schools. The module includes "the heads," or a series of mannequin heads that show the physical transformation of a woman nicknamed Mary from a healthy individual to someone addicted to methamphetamine. The "fully addicted" mannequin head shows the devasting effect that the drug can have on the skin and teeth of an addict. If you have seen these mannequins, you know the impact they can have! The module also includes educational materials and a guide that can help an individual relate the dangers of drug use to students. If you are interested in using this module in a school, please contact Molly Bickford at jfbmkb@bellsouth.net or Alliance GDA staff support Delaine Hall at hall@gadental.org.

Dipper Dan Spit Tobacco Education Project
The Alliance owns two Dipper Dan models showing the long term effects of smokeless tobacco to use in schools around the state. Along with Alliance puppet shows promoting dental health, these modules can be presented and used in every district. Several Alliance members can travel to different districts to help anyone that wants to get any of these programs started, either during Dental Health Month in February or at any time during the year. Contact Alliance GDA staff support Delaine Hall at hall@gadental.org.
