Dental Unit Waterline Regulation
On February 7th, 2025, the Georgia Board of Dentistry passed a new rule governing dental unit water quality. The rule requires use of water that meets United States Environmental Protection Agency drinking water standards for nonsurgical procedures, and it describes specific requirements for testing dental unit waterlines. Georgia Dental Association is assembling resources to assist members in getting up to speed with water testing.
Continuing Education
GDA’s continuing education team has 2 infection control seminars available for purchase online. The first course includes protocols and instructions related to dental unit waterlines. It also fulfills the Georgia Board of Dentistry’s requirement that dentists receive 2 hours of, “education and training regarding infection control in the practice of dentistry, which shall include education and training regarding dental unit water lines.” The course “Infection Control Updates and Dental Unit Waterlines: Ensuring Your Program Runs “Fluently”!” is available for purchase through the link below.

A new resource document is also available to member dentists. The document compiles the text of the Georgia Board of Dentistry’s infection control rules as well as answers to frequently asked questions and helpful content related to dental unit waterline testing and maintenance.
