Waterline Basics with Michelle Strange, MSDH, RDH

This introductory webinar will walk dental teams through the basics of waterline maintenance, including how to shock, test, and treat dental unit waterlines—even if you've never done it before. You'll leave with clear steps, and the confidence to get your practice on track with safe, compliant waterline protocols.

Infection Control Updates and Dental Unit Waterlines: Ensuring Your Program Runs “Fluently”! (February 2025 with Dr. Marie Fluent)

It is the responsibility of dentists and the infection control coordinator to establish an infection control program that prevents the spread of infection for their patients, their team members, and themselves. Yet the entire dental team plays a critical role by following infection prevention polices and protocols to ensure every dental visit is safe.   

In this update, participants will review all components standard precautions as a set of practices to prevent cross contamination in dentistry and highlight the importance of using clean and safe water for non-surgical dental procedures.  

Attendees will learn that with a well-trained and educated team and an up-to-date office-specific written program, that their infection control program can run smoothly, efficiently, and “Fluently.”  This course fulfills the two-hour Georgia Board of Dentistry CE requirement for dentists and hygienists.

  • Identify the Principal CDC document: Guidelines for infection control in dental healthcare settings—2003 
  • List standard precautions necessary to prevent cross-contamination in dentistry 
  • Discuss the importance of following the manufacturer’s instructions for use for all infection control related products
  • Discuss strategies to ensure nonsurgical dental water meets EPA drinking water standards 
  • Explain the rationale and frequency for testing dental unit waterlines
  • Describe remedial actions to be taken if unacceptable CFUs are identified
  • Discuss logging and recordkeeping requirements for dental unit waterline tests in the state of Georgia 
  • Identify resources and educational materials to support your infection control program
