Georgia Dental Association/Dental College of Georgia Adjunct Faculty Program

The adjunct faculty program connects GDA Dentists with DCG students through volunteer clinic hours in senior clinic at DCG or any charitable clinic* in Georgia partnered with DCG’s Community-Based Dental Rotation Program. The goal of this program is to not only help bridge the gap between GDA member dentists and dental students, but also to reinforce the high quality, evidence-based instruction and ethical guidelines and concepts of professionalism provided by the DCG faculty. This will serve as a strong foundation for their careers in dentistry. Additionally, volunteer hours in charitable clinics help to further Georgia’s Action for Dental Health Plan.

Dentists choosing to volunteer their time and expertise should be fully committed to this effort. The GDA dentists who participate must commit to teaching/volunteering at least one day per month over a minimum of a one-year period. In addition to committing the time, each interested GDA member dentist must go through the Dental College of GA adjunct faculty appointment process (paperwork to be sent to the Dental College of GA and if approved, dentist will be notified of next steps). In order to maintain this adjunct faculty appointment, volunteers must abide by AU and DCG policies, including compliance training (provided by AU via internet and conference calls). Once the adjunct faculty appointment is approved and finalized, each dentist can begin to coordinate schedules with clinics to identify convenient times to participate. Once scheduled at volunteer clinic and paired with student, dentists are responsible to evaluate the student rotation and acknowledge supervised procedures with sign off, on dental student clinic hours.
