Oral Pathology - A Practical Review of Common (and commonly missed) lesions
Every clinician encounters oral lesions - but knowing which findings are routine, which require monitoring, and which demand urgent action can be challenging in a busy practice. This course provides a practical, case-based review of oral pathology designed to sharpen diagnostic skills and build confidence in everyday decision-making. 
Highlighting the lesions general dentists and hygienists most commonly encounter, the ones most commonly missed, and the subtle clinical clues that help distinguish benign from concerning pathology. 
Through clear clinical photos, real biopsy cases, and step-by-step reasoning, attendees will learn pattern recognition strategies, biopsy indications, and when additional evaluation or referral is warranted. The goal: empower dental teams to spot early disease, avoid common pitfalls, and elevate the quality of routine oral examinations.
 
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
1.    At the completion of this lecture, the dental provider will be able to confidently differentiate between common benign and malignant oral lesions.
2.    When pathology is identified upon clinical examination, the dental provider will be able to formulate an appropriate differential diagnosis and determine next steps.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Julia Price is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial pathologist based in metro Atlanta, known for her clear communication style, engaging teaching approach, and ability to make complex pathology topics approachable for every level of learner. While she provides comprehensive clinical and microscopic evaluations of oral diseases, one of her core passions is educating dental professionals through lectures, study clubs, and continuing education programs.

Dr. Price completed her DDS at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Dentistry (UMKC) in 2017, graduating Summa Cum Laude and earning induction into Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU). She went on to complete a General Practice Residency (GPR) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), practiced general dentistry in Kansas City for four years, and ultimately completed her Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology residency at Northwell Health, where she trained under several renowned oral pathologists.

Throughout her education and career, Dr. Price has held leadership roles that strengthened her skills in public speaking, organization, and collaboration. In dental school, she served as President of Delta Sigma Delta (DSD), Student Council representative for the Class of 2017, and held multiple executive roles in dental organizations - positions that required planning events and speaking regularly to large groups. During her OMFP residency, she served as Chair of the Resident and Fellow Association (RFA), representing approximately 2,000 trainee physicians across the health system. In this role, she led meetings, coordinated system-wide initiatives, and worked closely with hospital leadership.

Dr. Price has delivered CE for the Georgia Dental Association, lectured extensively to dental and medical trainees, and presented numerous lunch-and-learn sessions. She is also committed to community outreach, volunteering at oral cancer screening events including head and neck screenings for the New York Fire Department. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, skiing, baking, exploring the Atlanta BeltLine, and squeezing in Peloton rides – look out for the “OralPathPrice” shoutout.

Dental insurance changed substantially in 2025, and the effects are now reaching practice contracts, claim payments, and administrative operations. State reforms addressed Dental Loss Ratios, virtual credit card payments, assignment of benefits, artificial intelligence in claims adjudication, provider-network leasing, and other long-standing concerns. At the same time, federal proposals, payor consolidation, tiered network products, reimbursement pressure, and expanding network relationships continue to reshape practice economics—often without a new signature or obvious warning.

This focused one-hour session examines the developments most likely to matter to dental practices in 2026. Attendees will learn which selected reforms have been enacted, which remain pending, and how evolving payor strategies may affect reimbursement, patient access, and administrative workload. The course will highlight contract provisions, payor communications, and claims patterns that warrant attention, then conclude with a practical framework for deciding what the practice should investigate next. Rather than attempting to cover every insurance issue, the program concentrates on the changes dental professionals should understand now and the questions they should be asking.

Speaker Bio

The Relevance of Removable Prosthodontics in the Real World is a practical and clinically focused continuing education course designed to reframe the way general dentists view removable prosthodontics in modern dentistry. While many clinicians may perceive removable treatment as outdated, difficult, or less desirable than fixed solutions, removable prosthodontics continues to play a critical role in providing conservative, predictable, and patient-centered care.

Presented from the perspective of a prosthodontist, this course will explore the real-world indications for removable versus fixed treatment options and discuss how proper case selection can lead to successful long-term outcomes. Participants will review the fundamental principles of complete and immediate denture therapy, including key clinical considerations that improve predictability, patient comfort, and function. Through a series of clinical cases, attendees will also see how removable prosthodontic treatment can provide effective solutions for medically compromised patients, financial limitations, anatomical challenges, and other complex restorative scenarios.

This lecture aims to increase confidence in diagnosis and treatment planning while highlighting how removable prosthodontics remains highly relevant in contemporary dental practice.

Speaker Bio

Born in Mississippi and raised in Statesboro, Georgia, Dr. Yoon has his roots in the South. Fascinated by the hands-on aspect, his interest in dentistry began as a teenager. Dr. Yoon is a proud alumnus of the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!). Dr. Yoon received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (D.M.D.) at the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. While in dental school, Dr. Yoon became interested in treating patients with complex dental conditions and decided to continue his studies even further. Dr. Yoon completed the Advanced Prosthodontics residency program at the Dental College of Georgia. During his residency, Dr. Yoon received advanced education in removable and fixed prosthodontics, esthetics, implants, occlusion, and rehabilitation of patients with complex dental conditions. Since 2018, Dr. Yoon has been in private practice in the metro Atlanta area, specializing in Removable and Implant Prosthodontics.  

This presentation draws the relationships – which are not necessarily direct – between abiding by the standard of care and the well-defined standards of ethics in dental practice.  The impacts of breaches of ethical considerations, upon state board actions, patient choices, and practicing beyond stated abilities, will be explored, with references to actual clinical case examples.  Common scenarios, such as the use of (or refusal to use) fluoride, CBCTs versus plane films, and demands by patients and employers to perform more complex procedures, among others, will be viewed from the perspectives of both ethical duties and dental malpractice.  Attendees will gain an understanding of the internal conflicts that these concepts often raise, with the goal of being able to reason through at-odds situations in clinical settings.

Jacqueline Clarke received her BA in Literature and Film from Kalamazoo College in 2010, and her Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law in 2013. She is admitted to practice law in both the Michigan and Illinois state courts, as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan. Before joining MedPro Group, she worked as a litigation attorney at Smith, Haughey, Rice & Roegge in Ann Arbor, Michigan. There, she specialized in the defense of hospitals, healthcare facilities, physicians, nurses, and dentists in all stages of the licensing, claims, and litigation processes. She also provided risk management consultative services to a number of institutional clients, including the University of Michigan Health System, Spectrum Health, and Beaumont Health. Jacqueline joined MedPro in 2018 and helped our dental division achieve a trial win rate of 95% and a closed without payment rate over 80%. Jacqueline’s responsibilities include developing and delivering risk management and patient safety services to MedPro-insured dentists, students/residents, and national dental organizations. Jacqueline also serves in a business development role by providing educational seminars on risk reduction and proactive risk management to prospective clients, distribution partners and dental students and residents.

This interactive workshop provides practical strategies for strengthening infection prevention practices while addressing one of the most overlooked areas of clinical safety: dental unit waterlines.

Dr. Rico D. Short is a world-renowned, board-certified endodontist with over 25 years of experience in dentistry and more than two decades specializing in endodontics. He is an accomplished author, lecturer, professor, and sought-after speaker. As an expert spokesperson on endodontics for the American Dental Association (ADA), he represents a professional network of approximately 161,000 U.S. dentists.

 

Dr. Short attended the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry to attain a Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree in 1999. In 2002 he earned his post doctorate degree in Endodontics from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Short added the final notch to his belt and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics in 2009.  His private practice, Apex Endodontics P.C, was opened in 2004 and is located in Smyrna Georgia just outside Atlanta. 

 

Dr. Short has over 30 years of experience in dentistry and over 25 years in endodontics. He is a national board examiner for The ADEX Testing Agency.  This agency administers the licensure exam for oral healthcare professionals in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica.  The agency includes CDCA, WREB, and CITA board exams.  Dr. Short is a member of the Fellow International College of Dentist, The Pierre Fauchard Academy, a graduate of the ADA Institute of Diversity In Leadership Program, and an ADA Success Speaker. He is also an expert consultant in endodontics to the Georgia Board of Dentistry and an assistant clinical professor at The Dental College of Georgia in Augusta. 

 

As an independent national lecturer and a key opinion leader in endodontics, Dr. Short is endorsed by the American Association of Endodontists Speaker’s Bureau and collaborates with leading dental companies to evaluate new products before they reach the market.

 

Dr. Short has written numerous articles, appeared in many podcasts, and published in several journals including Dentistry Today (He made the exclusive cover April 2013), Inside Dentistry, UpScale Magazine, Rolling Out Magazine, and the Journal of Endodontics. Dr. Short published his first textbook in 2022 "Endodontic Keys And Cases".  This book was designed to help clinicians understand and successfully navigate through various cases dentistry and in the field of endodontics. In addition, he has published over 1,000 articles on social media involving case studies in endodontics. They are called “The SHORT Case Of The Day” in which he has a robust worldwide following of over 100,000 dentists.

 

Dr. Short has lectured at the American Dental Association several times and the National Dental Association annual meetings. He has lectured at local and large state meetings including the California Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, and many others throughout the United States and the Caribbean.  Dr. Short’s work has been published in dental journals around the world with opportunities to speak in China, India, The Netherlands, and the Philippines. Dr. Short was named one of the Top 40 Dentist under 40 in America by Incisal Edge Magazine in 2013, Top 20 Alumni Under 40 by Augusta University, and has been named in Dentistry Today consistently as one of the top leaders in continuing education.

 

Dr. Short has received several prestigious awards and accolades throughout his career. He is very philanthropic in his community. Dr. Short has established an annual scholarship at The Dental College of Georgia in Augusta, formally known as The Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. He is an American Dental Association Success Speaker and a graduate of the Institute of Diversity and Leadership Program.  With this knowledge, Dr. Short travels around the country speaking to dental students about the future of dentistry, student loan repayment, and finding a job. Dr. Oswaldo A. Henriquez, MD is a board-certified otolaryngologist–head and neck surgeon and fellowship-trained advanced rhinologist specializing in endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery. He serves as Director of Advanced Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at Wellstar Health System and is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Emory University. He also currently serves as President of the Georgia Society of Otolaryngology.

Dr. Henriquez completed his medical training at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship, an otolaryngology residency at Emory University, and advanced fellowship training in Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina.

His clinical practice focuses on the management of complex sinonasal disorders, revision sinus surgery, endoscopic skull base tumors, cerebrospinal fluid leak repair, septal perforation reconstruction, chronic rhinosinusitis, and nasal polyps. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Henriquez is actively involved in surgical education and research, frequently lecturing nationally and internationally on advanced rhinologic and skull base techniques.

A passionate educator and mentor, Dr. Henriquez is committed to advancing innovation in minimally invasive surgery while improving outcomes for patients with complex sinonasal and skull base disease.

Pain Management in Dentistry

This presentation will initially provide a brief overview of the opioid abuse crisis, describing major culprits, including the role of health care professionals, and subsequent measures aimed to curtail it. Thereafter, we will focus on therapeutically-relevant pharmacological properties of analgesic medications and describe emerging information in the field. This will be followed by description of a rational approach, including the American Dental Association Guidelines, to pain management in dental setting, prescription writing and ultimately recommendations for disposal of unused prescription opioids.

Mahmood S. Mozaffari, Ph.D., DMD, FAHA

Dr. Mahmood S. Mozaffari has dual training in basic medical sciences (Ph.D.) and dentistry (DMD) with hospital dentistry experience. He joined the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University in 1994, where he is now a Tenured Professor in the

Department of Oral Biology with other college- and university-level joint appointments. Aside from teaching (e.g., pharmacology & therapeutics), his research interests include investigation of the status and role of glucocorticoid-regulated proteins in oral lesions as well as the role of novel immune/inflammatory mechanisms in periodontitis, acute kidney injury and myocardial infarction. He has

published about 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 13 book chapters; his research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association and the industry. He serves the university and the profession at multiple levels including the following. He is a fellow of the American Heart Association and the European Association for Predictive, Preventive and Personalized Medicine. He is an ad hoc reviewer for over a dozen scientific journals and is on the editorial board of several journals including the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and Associate Editor for Frontiers in Pharmacology. He is a member of test construction committees for the integrated National Board Dental Examinations and the Advanced Dental Admission Test of the American Dental Association (ADA) and a site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the ADA.

Facial trauma in sports remains a major risk factor despite all of the current safety measures that have been put in place over the past few years.  This lecture will instruct the attendees on current standards used in the NHL, NFL and Major league baseball and how we can relate them to our young athletes in our practices.  As well as how to assess and treat the most common injuries we see in sports dentistry.  We will discuss concussions in professional and amateur sports.  Review the controversies about whether mouth-guards can really prevent concussions.

-Motivate dental professionals to get involved with local amateur and professional sports teams

-Be better prepared to treat a patient who suffers a sport related dental injury, including fractured and avulsed teeth

Digital dentistry can improve predictability across a wide range of restorative procedures, but successful outcomes depend on more than simply capturing an intraoral scan. Complete clinical records, accurate evaluation of digital files, and clear laboratory communication are essential at every stage of treatment.

This course will provide a practical overview of digital workflows for single-unit tooth-supported restorations, single-unit implant crowns, and digital dentures. Participants will learn how record requirements and clinical considerations change between fixed, implant-supported, and removable cases.

The course will highlight proper tissue and margin capture for single crowns, scan-body seating and restorative-space considerations for implant crowns, and tissue anatomy, jaw relationships, occlusion, and esthetic records for digital dentures. Common clinical and laboratory challenges will be reviewed to help attendees identify potential problems before they affect fit, function, esthetics, or delivery.

Participants will gain a practical understanding of how digital records, scan evaluation, treatment planning, and laboratory communication can improve predictability across single-unit restorations, single-unit implant crowns, and digital dentures. Alesha Snell, Catalis Labs 

Alesha Snell is a nationally recognized leader in digital dentistry and implant prosthetics with over 35 years of experience in the field. Throughout her career, she has been at the forefront of the industry’s transition from traditional analog methods to advanced digital workflows, with a particular emphasis on the evolution of full-arch solutions such as the All-on-Four technique.

As the Director of Education for Catalis, Alesha oversees the design and delivery of continuing education programs across the United States. She develops strategies to unify education, provides support for clinical partners, and creates streamlined workflows that reduce remakes while improving communication between doctors and labs.

Alesha is also a Key Opinion Leader for multiple companies and frequently collaborates with implant and technology partners as well as universities to advance digital training. She lectures internationally on topics such as intraoral scanning, digital dentures, implant provisionals, surgical guides, and full-arch workflows. Dr. Trudy-Ann Frazer is a Board-Certified Pediatric Dentist, international speaker, and trusted health educator originally from Negril, Jamaica, who practices in Smyrna, Georgia. For more than 11 years, she has practiced as an associate pediatric dentist, including the past six years with her current practice, giving her firsthand insight into what helps associates—and the teams they join—thrive.

Known for her engaging, practical, and evidence-based presentations, Dr. Trudy-Ann speaks nationally on pediatric dentistry, communication, leadership, burnout prevention, workplace wellness, and building sustainable careers in dentistry. She is also an instructor for the Georgia Dental Association's Expanded Duties Dental Assistant (EDDA) program, where she teaches clinical skills and helps prepare dental assistants to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.

Sara Karlin, DDS

Bio: Dr. Sara Karlin is a board-certified pediatric dentist currently working in private practice in Atlanta, Georgia and as an attending pediatric dentist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Hospital. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland, College Park and completed her D.D.S. at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Dr. Karlin pursued her specialty training at New York University and Bellevue Hospital Center, earning a certificate in Pediatric Dentistry. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Georgia Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Karlin is the primary author of “Dental and Oral Considerations in Pediatric Celiac Disease,” published in J Dent Child, May 2016, and has co-authored numerous online continuing education courses for oral healthcare providers.

As a keynote speaker, Dr. Karlin presents an array of nutrition and oral health topics to dental and dental hygiene organizations across the continent. Notable engagements have included the American Dental Association, New York Dental Society, Arizona Dental Society and American Dental Hygiene Association.

Ellen Karlin currently owns and operates a nutrition consulting service. Previously, she was a nutrition consultant to dental healthcare professionals in Owings Mills, Maryland, and also spent over 3 decades as a nutrition consultant at the Comprehensive Asthma and Allergy Center. Mrs. Karlin holds a Master of Medical Science degree in Nutrition Education from Emory University. In 1999, she became a fellow of the American Dietetic Association. Ellen is also a spokesperson for the American Dairy Association Northeast and for the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation.

Mrs. Karlin is an internationally recognized keynote speaker at healthcare conferences. She has presented to many dental and dental hygiene groups including New York Dental Society, Arizona Dental Society, American Academy for Oral and Systemic Health, Florida Dental Association, American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Louisiana Dental Association and American Dental Hygiene Association. Ellen is the co-author of “Dental and Oral Considerations in Pediatric Celiac Disease.” Additionally, she has collaborated as co-author for several online continuing education courses for oral healthcare professionals, as well as delivered numerous webinars and podcasts.

This course provides a practical framework for incorporating teledentistry into clinical practice, including Georgia's current legal and regulatory requirements, appropriate clinical applications, documentation, workflow integration, preventive and minimally invasive care, and emerging innovations in digital dentistry. Judy Greenlea Taylor, DDS, MPH, FACD, FICD

Dr. Judy Greenlea Taylor is a nationally recognized healthcare and public health leader, consultant, health policy expert, and practicing dentist with more than 30 years of experience advancing oral health, healthcare quality, health policy, and population health outcomes. She is the Founder and CEO of Greenlea Dental Center, P.C., and most recently served as Dental Director for CareSource, a care management organization, where she led strategic initiatives focused on quality improvement, value-based care, policy development, operational excellence, oral health integration, and population health.

Dr. Taylor has served in numerous professional and public health leadership roles and has been actively engaged in community service throughout her distinguished career. As the 92nd President of the National Dental Association, she advanced policies and programs to expand access to care, strengthen the oral health workforce, support providers, and promote health equity. She also served on the Georgia Department of Public Health State Board and as a consultant and advisor to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, supporting oral health initiatives across the United States. In recognition of her public service, community activism, and leadership, she was recognized by the State of Georgia and afforded the courtesies of a Goodwill Ambassador.

A respected speaker, advisor, and consultant, Dr. Taylor is recognized for her expertise in federal and state health policy, oral-systemic health connections, and innovative care delivery models, including collaborative care, teledentistry, and minimally invasive care. Throughout her career, she has been a strong advocate for integrating oral health into healthcare delivery systems and advancing policies and strategies that improve access, quality, and population health outcomes. Her work also includes the development of innovative Medicaid and payer strategies that advance oral health, support whole-person health, and drive healthcare transformation.

Dr. Taylor earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and her Master of Public Health degree from the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health. She completed a General Practice Residency and Oral Surgery Fellowship at Emory University and is a Fellow of both the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.

This presentation provides healthcare professionals with the essential knowledge required to navigate the diagnostic work-up, staging, and multidisciplinary treatment of oral cancers. Participants will explore early detection, biopsy techniques, surgical and non-surgical interventions, and long-term survivorship care. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary collaboration among dentists, oral surgeons, pathologists, and oncologists to optimize patient outcomes and quality of life.

Beomjune B. Kim, D.M.D., M.D., F.A.C.S., is a head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgeon at City of Hope Cancer Center Atlanta. Dr. Kim
has been with City of Hope since 2019, relocating his practice to Atlanta in 2021. As a head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Kim has extensive expertise in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of cancer and other diseases that affect the head and neck. He is part of a multidisciplinary team
addressing the complex surgical needs of head and neck cancer patients, and those needing head and neck reconstruction.
Dr. Kim earned a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry. While at the University of Maryland, Dr. Kim received a Doctor of Medicine degree then completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in oral and maxillofacial urgery. He also completed a fellowship in head and
neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Kim is an American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Diplomate and earned a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Head and Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery by demonstrating significant skills in his area of specialty.
