Course Description
This one-hour course highlights dental procedures most commonly associated with malpractice claims—including those carrying the greatest financial risk. Participants will examine the types of patients more likely to pursue litigation and why situations escalate. Through real closed malpractice cases, the session demonstrates practical communication and de-escalation strategies to manage dissatisfied or disruptive patients and reduce risk exposure. The course also introduces lessons from the airline industry to support proactive approaches to preventing adverse outcomes in the dental practice.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify procedures and clinical situations most frequently associated with malpractice claims and higher liability exposure.
  2. Recognize patient behaviors and communication patterns that may increase the risk of conflict or litigation.
  3. Apply effective de-escalation and communication strategies in challenging patient interactions.
  4. Implement proactive risk reduction strategies, including concepts adapted from the airline industry, in daily practice.

Who Should Attend
